A Beautifully Mounted And Papered Katana By Shodai Takada Shigeyuki
Here is a very nicely mounded signed and dated papered katana. The sword has a cutting edge length of 64.5cm (25.39 inches) long. The blade is in very good old polish (not full new polish). It has a nicely active sugu-ha with some flowing sunagashi and distinct nei. Hada is itame with some masame towards the ha. It has a medium small kissaki with a long wide turn back in the boshi. The sword is signed: Hoshu Takada ju ShigeYuki and dated: Keian Ni Nen (1849) Hachi Gatsu Kichi Jitsu (an auspicious day in the 8th month). I had the blade papered by the NTHK at the Chicago shinsa in May. It passed with 75 points. The mounts are an Omori school wave motif in silver with black Ito on black saya. The tsuba is signed Omori Teruhide but I don't believe the signature is good but the work is really good. Please email me if you have any questions.
